The City of Wild Beasts
Original title: La Ciudad de las Fieras
German title: Metropole der Wilden
Tato lives in a favela in the Colombian metropolis of Medellín. He hangs out in the streets with his girlfriend Crespa and best buddy Pitu. They ride mopeds, smoke weed and stage rap battles. When Tato’s mother dies, the 17-year-old suddenly has to get by on his own, but he does not even have enough money to pay the rent. His landlady does not grant him any more extensions, and the situation escalates. Tato now has to watch out for the bill collectors, who do not hesitate to beat or even shoot him and his friends. His last chance is to leave the town and seek refuge with his grandfather Octavio, whom he does not know. The old man is equally lonely and initially fears that Tato is just a scrounger. But the young man earns Don Octavio’s respect. He would like to know more about his father, but his grandfather is reluctant to talk about him. No pictures of dad hang on the walls. When Octavio finally reveals the secret, Tato is shocked.
