SCHLiNGEL presents ten German films in Cairo
As a festival, we have maintained close relationships with other film festivals around the world for many years now. From time to time, recommendations from our festival colleagues also make it into the SCHLiNGEL programme. Conversely, we also bring German films to the big screen abroad. In cooperation with SCHLiNGEL, a film programme is currently part of the Hakawy International Arts Festival for Children in Egypt, at which ten productions from Germany will be shown. Animator Alexander Isert is there to present two of his short films.
Ten German films are currently travelling with us. This time the journey takes us to Cairo, where the 13th Hakawy International Arts Festival for Children is taking place from 1 to 9 February. The two productions THE ORDINARIES, which was awarded the Goethe-Institut's Children's and Youth Film Prize at the 27th SCHLiNGEL, and THE PEPPERCORNS AND THE TREASURE OF THE SEA can be seen. The Goethe-Institut Cairo has provided the corresponding Arabic subtitles so that the viewers can follow the content.
Eight short films are also part of the programme. Animator Alexander Isert will be in Cairo for META and CAT LAKE CITY to engage in dialogue with the local audience. He will also be talking to Ibrahim Saad from the Jesuit Cultural Centre in Cairo about his films and his work as an animator. The German short films MONKEY DOMINO, RED, LOOKS, AVANT CARD, LAIKA & NEMO and ISLAND will also be screened at Hakawy.
The festival is the only one of its kind for young audiences in Egypt and presents various forms of art, including films. Hakawy also organises workshops, masterclasses and exhibitions.
The presentation of the German films in Cairo takes place in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Cairo, and one of the screenings is even organised directly at the Goethe-Institut. The project is also financially supported by the Saxon State Chancellery and the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung MDM.
