Kevin is new to the prison. He shares communal cell number 10 with Tommy, Andy and Marc. Kevin notes very quickly that this is a community of convenience based on the survival of the fittest. Kevin has to subordinate himself. Repression and fighting happen again and again. Kevin fears he might not withstand the humiliations of his cellmates. He manages to build up a trusting relationship with Tommy, who also had to learn to fight his way through. When Tommy prevents Kevin from intervening in the brutal rape of homosexual fellow prisoner Juli, he makes it absolutely clear: if you no longer want to be a victim, you have to start defending yourself. At first, Kevin does not want to accept this and slips further into the role of the victim. Juli’s tragic suicide demonstrates vividly to Kevin what it means to show signs of weakness in the isolated area of a prison. He starts a fight in which he is gaining the upper hand against Tommy. The dispute of the four cellmates escalates. In a long night, a terrible tragedy is taking place behind the steel door of cell number 10, which changes the young people’s lives.
