Peacock Lament
Original title: Vihanga Premaya
German title: Klagelied der Pfaue
Amila from Sri Lanka is just 19 years old, and he suffers a hard fate. Both his parents have died and he is the eldest who now has to take care of his four siblings: his brothers Susantha and Duminda, his two sisters Nisha and Inoka. Inoka is only ten years old and in hospital. Suffering from a congenital, life-threatening heart defect, she urgently needs an operation that costs a lot of money. Under this pressure and without hesitation, Amila accepts a dubious job offer from Mrs Malini. She is the boss of a “baby farm” which sells children from unwanted pregnancies to wealthy Americans and Europeans. Amila’s job is to find pregnant women and take them to the illegal “baby farm”. He is not happy with this job and tries to get out of the business just in time, but he is already too deep in the clutches of human traffickers, especially child traffickers. He is arrested, and the fate of his little sister and the whole family seems to be in Mrs Malini’s hands.
