I Like Movies

Seventeen-year-old Lawrence Kweller lives with his single mother in Burlington, Canada. His great passion is movies. However, this gets on the nerves of his mother and his classmates. To make matters worse, the teenager is very direct in his statements and finds it hard to accept criticism. This attitude and his resistance to advice constantly blow up in his face. Thus, relationships with the people around him gradually deteriorate. The friendship with his best friend Matt Macarchuck is particularly damaged. Everything in Lawrence’s life is geared towards his big dream, studying film at New York University. But he needs 90,000 US dollars to make it come true. He is convinced to scrape enough money together, and he takes a temporary job at the local “Sequels” video store, where a complicated friendship develops with his boss Alana. In the end, Lawrence has to realise that his career plans are utopian and that things in life sometimes do not turn out the way one might wish.
