After her mother dies, twelve-year-old Georgie tries to come to terms with her loss. She now lives alone in the family home in a London suburb and tries to cope with life’s duties. To afford basic necessities, she sells stolen bicycles with her friend Ali. While she is grieving and struggling for independence, Georgie’s father Jason enters her life for the first time. His newfound role as a father, as well as Georgie’s rejection present both of them with some challenges. The girl is critical of Jason’s attempts to build a relationship and initially rejects any contact. But her continued reluctance to accept the new situation also puts her friendship with Ali to the test. Through joint activities, small gifts to Georgie and Jason’s increasing willingness to take responsibility, the relationship between father and daughter improves visibly. However, when the true reason for Jason’s return and his subsequent disappearance comes to light, Georgie is once again faced with an important decision.
