Katak, the Brave Beluga
Original title: Katak, le brave béluga
German title: Katak, der mutige Beluga
The young beluga whale Katak lives with his pod at a placid estuary. His peers have already turned white, only Katak is still small and grey. That is why he is not allowed to swim together with the adult males. He loves listening to his grandmother’s story about the legendary Katak, his grandfather, who stood up to the bloodthirsty killer whale Jack-Knife, defeated him and saved many of his fellow whales from death. Unfortunately, his grandfather disappeared with his pod into the Arctic Ocean even before he knew Katak’s grandmother was expecting his child. Now Katak wants to prove that he too has grown up and sets off to the Arctic. He hopes to find his grandfather and bring him back before his grandmother dies. But the journey is perilous, as Katak’s path also crosses Jack-Knife’s hunting grounds. He finds a companion in sturgeon Cyrano; and he meets Jack-Lynn, Jack-Knife’s daughter. Unlike her father, she cannot stand blood and violence. The two of them quickly become friends. However, when Jack-Knife learns that Katak is the grandson of his old arch-enemy, he hunts him down without mercy.
