That was the IFF SCHLiNGEL 2021
All makers and guests of the 26th International Film Festival for Children and Young Audience SCHLiNGEL experienced an eventful week. More than 17,000 guests flocked to the festival's seven venues in Chemnitz and Zwickau to see children's and youth films from around the world. 193 long and short films from almost 50 countries were in the program. The juries did not have an easy choice and nevertheless chose their favorites with a total of 19 prizes on October 16 in the Carlowitz Hall of the Chemnitz City Hall. Four short films were already awarded on Wednesday during the festival week at the Long Night of Short Films.
A special thanks goes to all the supporters, partners and sponsors who remained loyal to us in 2020 and '21 despite the difficult circumstances. We were especially happy to welcome many old and new friends (again) here in Chemnitz, after we had to make the international exchange largely digital last year. In 2021, 90 guests from 31 countries visited SCHLiNGEL. Thanks to all jury members and filmmakers who made the in some cases really long way to us!
With extraordinary and brand-new productions, the International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences SCHLiNGEL has been attracting thousands of young and old cineastes from Chemnitz and the surrounding area to the cinema every year since 1996 in the week before the Saxon autumn vacations.
In addition to first-class film enjoyment, SCHLiNGEL offers a sophisticated and varied supporting program. Here, the focus is especially on film and media educational offers for kindergartens, schools and after-school programs, in which the participants gain insight into topics such as film production, handling camera & co. or setting films to music in practical tasks. Accredited specialists of the film industry can also find out about the latest trends and issues relating to children's and youth film in seminars and forums.
In addition to the annual SCHLiNGEL, Saxony-wide matinee tours have become established. This makes selected productions accessible to a large audience outside of the festival. This goal is also pursued by various international film presentations of national productions in the competition category German Focus, for example in China, India, Japan, Canada, Russia and Uzbekistan.
