Football on the Roof

Twelve-year-old Aimei lives with her older sister in a remote mountain village in Yunnan. She doesn’t know exactly where her mother lives. While her daily life consists of school and working in the fields, she has one great passion: playing football with her four friends. Since they don’t have a ball, they use grapefruits and the roofs of houses as playing fields. Although football is very popular in the village, most people believe this sport is only for boys. Aimei also dreams of appearing as a football player on television one day. Finally, she convinces a somewhat quirky villager to step in as the girls’ coach. Together, they form their own team despite the ridicule and scepticism of the community. Thus begins the girls’ journey, driven by their desire to play real football and discover life beyond the mountains. Along the way, Aimei must overcome personal challenges that test her courage, her friendships and her ability to forgive.
