Miriam moves in with her friend Ida for a while and therefore attends Winterstein School. Of course, she knows nothing about the secret of her new class. But on her very first day at school, Mr Morrison hands out two magical animals again. Surprisingly, Miriam also gets one, namely the lively tarsier Fitzgeraldo. Miriam confides in him that she was an outsider at her old school. The second magical animal, the clever owl Muriel, goes to Max. The owl immediately senses what Max does not want to admit: he seems to be in love with his best friend Leonie. And then, by chance, Ida finds out that Winterstein School is about to close. She and her class hope that the upcoming competition between the schools can avert the closure and thus also the end of the magical community. They join forces to face the challenge. Only for Miriam does this “school challenge” prove to be very complicated, because she has to compete against her old class and decide where she wants to belong.
