Mum Don't Love Me No Mo'
Thomas lives with his sister and her newborn baby on La Réunion and spends most of his time breakdancing. For him, it’s more than just a hobby: it’s a form of expression, freedom and self-assertion. His biggest dream is to win a breakdance competition and move to France to start a new, better life. When their mother unexpectedly kicks the three of them out, their world falls apart. They are sent to live with their estranged father, whom they hardly know and who has long since started a new family. Even though he tries to cater to the two rebellious teenagers, conflicts repeatedly arise. Thomas looks for new ways to create space for himself while still meeting his father’s expectations. His sister responds to the situation in different ways, sometimes supportively, sometimes defiantly. The confrontation with disappointment and the feeling of being unwanted and out of place in their father’s seemingly perfect, middle-class world leave a lasting mark on the siblings during this crucial phase of their lives.
