David has just served his juvenile sentence at Hahnöfersand Prison and is now trying to make a fresh start in Hamburg. His social worker, Ms Klier, finds him a place in a shared flat and helps him look for work. In his application he does not have to disclose that he was in prison from 2019 to 2021. “Work and travel” sounds much better. David soon finds a job at a cleaning company. However, he finds his daily routine monotonous and dreary. His only support comes from his girlfriend Janine and a few friends from his past. They encourage him not to fall back into old habits. But then he loses a lot of money on a horse bet, gets deeper and deeper into debt and ends up losing his job. Davidʼs boss fires him because a colleague, also a former convict, has “freaked out” and he no longer wants to employ men with criminal records. But David urgently needs money. He finds what he is looking for in his flatmateʼs room, but the money he steals is only a drop in the ocean ...
