Flowers on Ice
Saku lives with his wife and their daughter Saikal in a small, snowy village in Kyrgyzstan. They lead a modest life and money is tight. To earn some extra income, the family has come up with an unusual idea. Where potatoes grow in summer, a self-made ice rink now spreads out. When Saku and Saikal play ice hockey on it, they feel like real professionals. Although the plan to boost the family‘s income with the ice rink doesn‘t really work out, Saku infects the village with his passion for ice sports. Under his leadership, an amateur team is formed with boys from the village, which soon proves able to compete with the city teams in the regional tournament. But then one of Saku‘s players is seriously injured in an unfair foul and the dream of an ice hockey club seems to be over. Saikal, who understands how important the sport is to her father, has an idea: what if they compete in the upcoming tournament with an all-female team instead?
