12-year-old Karli moves to the Alps with his family, where his parents fulfill their dream of owning their own hotel. But Karli discovers something extraordinary: using one of the old elevators, he can travel back in time - to 1938, where he makes friends with the Jewish guest girl Hannah and the little shoeshine boy Georg. After Georg is accused of theft and loses his job, the children decide to get to the bottom of the matter. In the process, the friends discover a big secret hidden behind the facades of the hotel.
