SCHLiNGEL travels with German production to Mexico
In addition to numerous international productions, the programme of our SCHLiNGEL film festival also includes films from Germany. After SCHLiNGEL, selected films continue to travel around the world with the festival and can be seen at other international film festivals. In this context, the German-Austrian co-production NEW TALES OF FRANZ was shown in Mexico. It was accompanied by SCHLiNGEL director Michael Harbauer.
On 6 August, the Festival Internacional de Cine para Niños (...y no tan Niños) - International Film Festival for Children (...but not just for boys) - kicked off its 29th edition. Following last year's screening of the first instalment - TALES OF THE FRANZ - in Mexico, young audiences in Mexico City and the municipality of Atenco could look forward this time to the sequel, NEW STORIES OF THE FRANZ by director Johannes Schmid. The German-Austrian co-production was part of the SCHLiNGEL competition Blickpunkt Deutschland in 2022 and has since been presented by SCHLiNGEL in India, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, among other countries.
"NEW TALES OF FRANZ proves once again that German children's films inspire young audiences around the globe. For this reason, we are delighted that our SCHLiNGEL International project can help to popularise German children's films abroad and bring them together with an audience in this way," says SCHLiNGEL festival director Michael Harbauer in the run-up to the Mexican children's film festival.
The Festival Internacional de Cine para Niños (...y no tan Niños) is organised by the Mexican children's film association La Matatena, which has set itself the task of bringing children closer to the quality of filmmaking and introducing them to audiovisual media in a creative, child-friendly way. In addition to the German production, this year's festival programme also includes the Canadian film COCO FARM, which was awarded the MDR Special Prize and the Club of Festivals Kind Prize at the last SCHLiNGEL.
The presentation of NEW TALES OF FRANZ in Mexico is financially supported by the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung MDM and the Saxon State Chancellery.
