Eleven-year-old Linh and her little sister Tien are left home alone when their mother unexpectedly has to return to Vietnam to take care of their seriously ill grandmother. So Linh not only looks after quite unruly Tien, she also manages the family restaurant on her own. No one outside the Vietnamese community is supposed to find out and definitely not the child protective services. However, one day red-haired loner Pauline from across the street is standing at her door. Pauline is an only child, who has the whole neighborhood under surveillance out of boredom. She has been watching through her telescope that the Vietnamese sisters live alone. She is envious of the two girls about their seemingly independent lives and blackmails Linh and Tien into starting a gang with her. From now on, Pauline is not leaving their side. She properly mixes up Linh’s already difficult everyday life, so finally the police and strict Mrs Trost from child protective services become aware of Linh and Tien.
