The Nutcracker and the Mouseking
Original title: Nussknacker und Mausekönig
German title: Nussknacker und Mausekönig
It is Christmas in the Stahlbaum family home. Like every year, Marie and her younger brother Fritz are looking forward to Christmas Eve, the silver sparkling Christmas tree and their godfather Anselmus, who brings them especially nice presents. This time it's a magic box with a "sugar world" full of music and mechanical figures, as well as a nutcracker hidden by Anselmus under the tree. Marie discovers this ugly, chunky wooden guy just before going to bed, and his sad look touches her heart. When Fritz breaks him an arm just for the devilment, Marie bandages the poor nutcracker’s arm, puts him into her doll's bed, and promises to take care of him. That same night the girl is awakened by a strange noise at the twelfth stroke of clock. Downstairs in the living room the nutcracker has come to life - as Marie has secretly desired. But he is attacked by a sinister mouse king and can hardly defend himself with only one arm. Marie angrily chases away the mouse king by throwing her slipper at him, but he threatens to come back and defeat the nutcracker!
