Trenk, the Little Knight
Original title: Ritter Trenk
German title: Ritter Trenk
“You’re born a serf, you die a serf and you spend your whole life as a serf.” – This is the hard lot the family of poor peasant boy Trenk, as well as many of the other villagers have to bear. They suffer under the rule of the merciless knight and feudal lord Wertolt who collects almost all their yields. When Trenk’s father Haug cannot pay the required charges Wertolt throws him into the dungeon without much ado. The next day, little Trenk courageously sets out for the city in order to free his father. There he learns that the prince has promised to fulfil one free wish of the knight who manages to win the knights tournament and to beat the dragon living in the forest. So Trenk has to become a knight – impossible at that time! But Trenk is not just a brave, but also a clever fellow. With the help of the juggler Momme-Mumm, the fearful knight boy Zink, self-confident Thekla and her father, Hans von Hohenlob, and his friend, the little pig, Trenk ultimately manages to be knighted.
