Tom and Hacke
Original title: Tom und Hacke
German title: Tom und Hacke
The world-famous classic “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain served as a model for award-winning author and screenwriter Rudolf Herfurtner, who transferred the story for this movie to Bavaria in the period shortly after the Second World War. Thomas Sojer, called Tom, has lost his parents during the war and now lives with his aunt, who supports him and her own son with sewing. Tom's friend Hacke is also an orphan and lives in an old trailer. When the two boys try to conjure away Hacke’s warts in a full moon night at the cemetery, they witness a murder. The black marketeer and criminal Ami Joe is stabbing a boy just because he demands his share of ill-gotten cigarettes. Tom and Hacke are frightened and swear not to tell anyone. But then Ami Joe accuses the good-natured old paper dealer Muffler, who then goes on trial. While Hacke sticks to their oath, Tom begins to falter. On the one hand he cannot watch an innocent man go to prison, on the other hand, he knows that brutal Ami Joe will take revenge.
