Death of a Superhero
Original title: Death of a Superhero
German title: Am Ende eines viel zu kurzen Tages
15-year-old Donald just wants to be like everyone else his age. But he has cancer and is being pursued by wild death fantasies. He digests them using felt pen and marker to create extraordinary comics in which a muscle-bound superhero, his alter ego, is struggling against the cruel Glove equipped with knife hands and his sexy assistant Nursey Worsey. But in everyday life, Donald takes life-threatening risks again and again to challenge death. Therefore his helpless parents send him to a psychologist, the unconventional Dr. Adrian King. After initial resistance, Donald notes that he is finally being taken seriously and treated as an adult by Adrian. Gradually, he manages to open up and turns back to life. A part of life is the new student Shelly, capable of reading an entire article from an empty folder. Donald falls for the rebellious girl, and together they experience a wonderful evening on the roof of a skyscraper. But the disease takes its toll. How much time will remain to enjoy the state of being in love? The Irish-German co-production, a mix of live action and fast-paced animation elements, is based on the successful youth book “Death of a Superhero” by the New Zealand author Anthony McCarten, who also wrote the screenplay for this film.
