The Secret Floor
Karli is twelve years old and just had to move to a village in the Alps. His parents have bought an old hotel there, which they now want to renovate during the summer holidays. And Karli is supposed to help. Annoyed by the situation, he decides to use the rickety lift and impatiently presses all the buttons. Suddenly, it starts moving, jolts and then stops... in the same hotel, but in the year 1938. It is the year when Adolf Hitler ordered the annexation of Austria by Germany. At the „Grand Hotel de l’Europe“, as it was called at the time, Karli meets Hannah, a Jewish girl, and Georg, a shoe shiner. But he also watches the mean sons of a high-ranking Nazi insult Jewish guests. When valuable jewellery and money are found in Georg’s cleaning box, everyone believes he is the thief. But Karli and Hannah are convinced of Georgʼs innocence and want to catch the real culprit – for example, bar pianist Bruno, who secretly meets up with hotel guests and slips them something. Gradually, Karli realises that this is not just a simple case of theft, but that his friends are in serious trouble.
