Oskar & Lilli – Where No One Knows Us
Original title: Ein bisschen bleiben wir noch
German title: Ein bisschen bleiben wir noch
Six years ago, eight-year-old Oskar and his 13-year-old sister Lilli fled Chechnya with their mother. In the meantime, the children regard Vienna as their new home and speak fluent German. But now the family is to be deported. Out of desperation, the already severely traumatised mother attempts suicide and is admitted to a psychiatric clinic. Oskar and Lilli are separated and placed with different foster parents. Oskar now lives with Susanne and Josef, a strict teacher couple, and finds it difficult to get used to their way of life. Lilli, however, gets along well with Ruth, her understanding foster mum. Ruth treats her like a friend and tries to give her a sense of security. Nevertheless, the siblings dream of living with their mother again and emigrating to South America together, to a place where “people are much nicer than here and even massage their cows”. They secretly meet and make plans to see their mother again and start a new life together with her.
