Karla's World
Original title: Karlas Kabale
German title: Karlas Welt
This Christmas should be something special for ten-year-old Karla. But that is not so easy because her parents are divorced. Karla’s father tends to be an alcoholic. Her mother married again. She and her husband Leif, however, have no time for the children. Karla’s little brother, five-year-old Lillebror, has invented an invisible friend, “Licky.“ Her stepbrother Mads-Morten is only interested in football. And whenever the little children do some mischief or something else goes wrong, it is the girl‘s fault. Karla is fed up to the back teeth. There are no Christmas cookies, and her mother is busy cleaning all the time. No Christmas mood can arise in the everyday hectic. So the girl hopes for 23 December when she is supposed to celebrate Christmas with her Dad. As her father suddenly cancels the party, Karla runs away. She wants to go to her friend Molly. At least they celebrate Christmas properly, with all the trimmings. But Molly and her family are not at home. Karla is disillusioned and roams about the area. Here she meets rundown Buster and disabled Ejnar and she decides to spend the night before Christmas Eve with the two of them. In this strange constellation Karla notes that no family is perfect. All have to come to an arrangement. And perhaps it is not too bad at home?
