German title: Wie von Flügeln getragen
The young girl Maya lives with her uncle and aunt in a small village in India. She regularly helps her uncle, a photographer, with his shots of the festivities in the village, such as the wedding of Togor, Maya’s friend of the same age. Maya may be at the top of her class, but in addition to her studies, she and her friends Ali and Bablu are passionate movie fans. Their enthusiasm goes so far that one day they secretly sneak out of class and into the local cinema. Quickly, the idea of making a film themselves is born. But about what? When Togor returns to the village, battered by the abuse of her new husband, and stays with her family without any prospect of education, Maya is certain: the young girl’s painful fate must become the subject of the film. Without any professional equipment but with the support of her friends, she begins her film project, writes a screenplay, and acts as a camerawoman and director. But after a death in the family, suddenly not only Maya’s production but her entire future is at stake.
