Blue Sky Jo
Original title: La petite et le vieux
German title: Blue Sky Jo
Québec in the eighties: Her name is Hélène, but she calls herself Jo because she wants to be like her cartoon heroine Joséphine, Miss Musketeer. Jo is only ten years old, has three sisters, an understanding but strict mother and a father who is busy being unhappy. She lives in the working-class neighbourhood of Limoilou, which is home to many different people. One of these people is her new neighbour Monsieur Roger, a constantly swearing old man wishing for his death. He has a drinking problem, but hides a kind heart under his rough exterior. Like her great role model, Jo also wants to perform heroic deeds. So she tries to find a job to help her unhappy father leave his job as a teacher and pursue his dream of writing instead. The more Jo immerses herself in the adult world and befriends Monsieur Roger, the more she realises that things and people are not always what they seem to be. At the same time, she has to learn to deal with loss and grief.
