The Last Time We Were Children
Original title: L' ultima volta che siamo stati bambini
German title: Die letzten Tage unserer Kindheit
Somewhere in Rome during the Second World War: the four children Cosimo, Italo, Vanda and Riccardo come together and soon become good friends despite their different social backgrounds and family histories. It is “the greatest friendship that has ever existed”, as they assure each other. But one day Riccardo, the son of a Jewish merchant, and his family suddenly disappear without a trace. The other companions set off in search of the missing people, hoping to free their friend and his family who are believed to have been kidnapped and bring them back home. Cosimo, Italo and Vanda are about to embark on a long journey along the railway tracks towards Germany. But the disappearance of the three children does not go unnoticed. They are soon followed by Italoʼs brother Vittorio and Sister Agnese, a carer from Vandaʼs orphanage. An adventurous pursuit unfolds between the two groups, which is initially perceived as a paper chase, but ultimately turns into a bitter experience for everyone involved.
