Hajjan
Original title: Hajjan
German title: Hajjan
Since his childhood, Ghanim has dreamed of taking part in the great Bedouin camel race, the Safwa. Arab men – and also many women – are magically drawn to these sporting competitions, but where there is passion, business flourishes as well. Ghanim, just twenty years old, is a promising young jockey with his camel Hofira, but he also knows that the successful winners from his guild only go down in history without no name as “Hajjan“ – jockey – while the real fame is reserved for the camel owners and owners of the big stud farms. Ghanim and his younger brother Mattar, who looks up to him, share their admiration for their grandfather, who was once such a successful Hajjan with his passion for racing. Ghanim is now well on his way to following in his grandfatherʼs footsteps, but falls into the trap of the greedy, corrupt, vain and scheming stud owner Jasser and dies during a race. Now it is up to his brother to carry on the dream. Matar, who as a tailor initially has no great interest in the race, is put in a difficult position.
