Eleven-year-old Mona and her family had to flee from the Kurdish region of Rojava in Syria. Now she is to attend school number 7 in the Berlin district of Wedding, a ‘problem school’ where the pupils do whatever they want and everyone seems to be fighting against everyone else. Mona is bullied in her class, especially as she speaks very little German and otherwise behaves like a nerd. Only class teacher Mr Chepovsky, known as ‘Che’ for short, tries to help Mona get used to her new school. When he learns that her greatest passion is football, he wants her to join the schoolʼs girlsʼ team. Soon a tournament is being organised for all Berlin schools, which “number 7” wants to take part in. Despite initial protests of her teammates, Mona gradually asserts herself in the team, especially against her biggest rival, hot-headed Jasmin. But the chaos in the team is similar to the one at school. Each girl fights doggedly for herself. Not a good prerequisite for succeeding in the all-Berlin tournament.
