17-year-old Hazal Akgündüz lives with her family in Berlin. She does not hold a secondary school leaving certificate. You have to try harder - says her mother. Just like Hazal’s older sister. But Hazal doesnʼt want to go to university, she wants to do an apprenticeship. She has already applied dozens of times – without success. She has only been offered a three-month work placement in a retirement home. Hazal encounters prejudice everywhere she goes and therefore sees few opportunities in her life. Now her long-awaited 18th birthday is approaching. She wants to have a great time with her two friends. But her mother has planned a family party with coffee and cake. Hazal secretly leaves the party and meets up with her friends. After the pre-party, they want to go to a hip Berlin club in the evening. But the doorman turns the three of them down. Once again, Hazal feels like a second-class person. When she is hit on by a student in the underground station, all anger bursts out of her. The situation escalates. Fearing the police, Hazal flees to Istanbul and tries to go into hiding.
