Christmas on Cobbler Street
Original title: Den første julen i Skomakergata
German title: Weihnachten in der Schustergasse
December 1945: While the whole of Norway is looking forward to the first Christmas after the war, ten-year-old Stine runs away from the boarding school for girls where she is staying. She arrives late at night in a small snow-covered village. On the run from the police on this cold winterʼs night, the young runaway hides in the house of shoemaker Andersen. The grumpy old man has not left his house for years and is not at all happy when he discovers Stine in his cobblerʼs workshop. But the smart girl offers him a deal he canʼt refuse. She leaves the house for him, does his shopping and in return he offers her a place to stay until her father comes to pick her up – at least thatʼs what Stine says. While she charms the inhabitants of the village under the alias Anna and finds a new friend in Jørgen, the police and two journalists are hot on her heels. And the ageing singer Tilla Hjul is also trying to expose Stine in order to get her name back in the headlines in time for Christmas. But itʼs not just Stine who has a secret, old Anderson also has something to hide.
