City of Wind
Original title: Ser Ser Salhi
German title: City of Wind
17-year-old Ze lives with his family in modest circumstances on the outskirts of the up-and-coming Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar. He is one of the best pupils at his school and is also a well-respected shaman in his community, which is committed to traditional shamanic Tengrism. If someone has a problem or needs the support of the spirits, Ze puts himself into a trance and speaks to the person seeking help as the grandfather spirit. When a friend of his mother asks for the young shamanʼs help, he meets Maralaa, who is due to receive a new heart valve. The bright young woman has doubts about Zeʼs abilities, but is nevertheless delighted when he visits her in hospital. The two of them quickly become close and, after the successful surgery, they wander around the city together, go clubbing and dye each otherʼs black hair blonde. But over time, Ze hardly recognises himself, gets into trouble at school and seems to lose his connection to the ghosts. He has to find a way to reconcile the two realities in his life.
