La Suprema

Laureana grows up with her grandmother in La Suprema, a remote village in Colombia. It was wiped off all maps long before 2001. Just like her almost legendary uncle, Anastasio ‘Medialuna’ Paez, the young Afro-Colombian woman has the dream of one day becoming a successful boxer. She now tries to convince Efraín, her uncle‘s former trainer, of her sporting abilities - much to the displeasure of her grandmother, who would prefer Laureana to be married off straight away. When Anastasio finally makes it to the world championship final in middleweight boxing, not only Laureana and her friends Carmelo and Ramón are thrilled, but euphoria spreads throughout the village. Everyone wants to watch the deciding fight together on screen. But the village is not connected to the electricity grid, nor do any of the inhabitants own a functioning television. When all attempts to get hold of a set and connect it to a power line fail, the situation seems hopeless.
