Sariri
Original title: Sariri
German title: Sariri
Dina and Sariri live somewhere in the desert in the abandoned mining settlement of La Lágrima. The two sisters, aged 16 and 11, have to deal with old traditions, superstitions and the strict rules of their patriarchal village community and overcome the associated challenges in different ways.
Dina, the older sister, dreams of taking part in a talent show in the city to escape village life. But when she becomes unintentionally pregnant, which puts her under additional pressure, she sees her dreams jeopardised and has to look for ways to achieve her goals. Even at the cost of leaving her sister all alone or fleeing with her.
Sariri, the younger sister, faces a different challenge: in her village of La Lágrima, an old ritual says that girls are banished to the desert as soon as they have their first period. This ritual symbolises the exclusion of women from the male-dominated village community. After becoming a woman, Sariri has to decide whether she should submit to this cruel tradition or rebel against it.
