14-year-old Carla is impulsive, skips school and likes wandering all over the place. Why should she stay at home when her mother is overstrained in every way. What does it actually mean to be a mother? Carla soon has to deal with this question herself when she wakes up one day and feels ill. However, she is not sick but six months pregnant. The social worker in charge sends her to “La Maternal”, a centre for teenage mothers. She feels left alone and without prospects. Will she become as bad a mother as her own mum? How can you fulfil this role properly anyway? She quickly finds allies with similar problems. Together with her new friends, she accepts her fate and learns what it means to take responsibility, to better understand the world around her, including her unstable and destructive relationship with her mother.
