The Space Among Us

14-year-old Tobi has to spend his holidays in his mother Kristina’s home village in Slovenia. His grandmother welcomes him warmly, but the young man misses his father, who stayed behind in Canada. Tobi feels out of place in the sleepy village. The clique around the neighbour’s boy Jakob considers Tobi an outsider and repeatedly makes discriminatory remarks because of his skin colour. That is why he spends most of his time alone on his skateboard. But then he meets old Herman, about whom the villagers tell bizarre stories, and they therefore shun him. The two of them share an enthusiasm for stars and the universe. From now on, blind Herman explains the night sky to him in his observatory. While a friendship develops between the unequal pair, Tobi distances himself more and more from his mother. Artist Kristina works in the gallery around the clock to prepare her exhibition. She also spends a lot of time with Andrej, her childhood sweetheart. And then there is young Tjaša, who becomes the centre of Tobi’s universe.
