My Night
Original title: Ma nuit
German title: Meine Nacht
Five years ago, Marion’s sister Alice died. Today would have been her 23rd birthday. While Marion’s mother celebrates with Alice’s old friends in remembrance of her daughter, Marion, who has by no means come to terms with the loss, embarks on a night tour of Paris, away from the landmarks and sights. Marion meets friends, dances ecstatically in a club, rides the underground or walks along a canal. Along the way, she repeatedly encounters other lost souls and people marked by life, and experiences threatening situations. Two men argue, one pulls a knife and goes for the other. Finally, she meets Alex, who has followed her from the club on his scooter. At first, she does not want to have anything to do with him. But when two men attack and harass Marion, Alex is there and intervenes. Since the attackers steal Alex’s scooter in return, he and Marion are henceforth on foot. They quickly feel a bond, pondering life, loss and the meaning of it all. Alex is also going through a life crisis. Thus, Marion manages to open up and talk about her sister and her sister´s death.
