German title: Piratenseele
“All the world records must be ours” – this slogan can be read near the football field in the provincial town where the friends Mishka and Dimka, his sister Sashka – called “Cheburashka” – and Pasha Kostin live. The four children play their sometimes crude pranks and experience their first heartbreak in a country that has since declined. Their dog Pirat always accompanies them in their adventures. When the friends are rummaging through an abandoned property, Pasha falls heavily and lapses into a coma. The others are convinced that his soul has migrated to their dog. They fight doggedly to get Pashas spirit back into the boy’s body. But in the meantime, there is new trouble ahead: A doctor at the hospital where Pasha is fighting for life wants to use a controversial and dangerous drug on their friend. The children get wind of this and move heaven and earth to prevent it. Only when they track down an odd hermit on the outskirts of town does hope seem to be in sight. In the end, however, the tried and tested “Sleeping Beauty”-style method works best – a princess kisses Pasha awake
