German title: Der geheime Garten
Ten-year-old Mary Lennox lives with her parents in India during the British colonial period. After the sudden death of her parents she is taken to her uncle Lord Archibald Craven living on the English country estate Misselthwaite Manor on the Yorkshire Moors. In the huge manor house, Mrs Medlock takes care of the young lady and a nanny provides the girl with the bare necessities. Bit by bit Mary familiarises herself with the old mansion. She discovers well-kept family secrets and finds her cousin Colin Craven, who is terminally ill and confined to bed. She tries to escape the dark walls as often as possible and finds herself in a secret garden on the moors, which has been dormant for many years. Now nothing can stop Mary anymore. Together with Dickon, her nanny’s brother, and Colin, she explores this magical little spot, which holds several surprises for the children. They set out on a wonderful journey to a place that will change their lives.
