We are looking forward to an exciting autumnFrom 1 to 7 October 2018, the international children's and youth film scene looks forward to Chemnitz and thousands of cineasts from the region will visit the cinemas. Then the 23rd edition of the International Film Festival for Children and Young Audience SCHLINGEL will once again bring the best films from all over the world onto the big screens. More than 230 short and long feature and animation films invite you to discover a colourful world. Therefore the festival is considered as Germany’s largest platform for this genre. At the end of the festival week, expert, children's and youth juries will select the best films out of six competition categories.
All screenings are accompanied by moderators who inform about content and intentions of the films - together with the present film teams. By running all productions in their original languages, the interest in foreign languages arouses almost additionally. A translation into German will take place live in the cinema. In this way, the protagonists can take the audience on adventurous journeys and give an insight into other cultures and ways of life. For the first time, visually and hearing-impaired people will experience unrestricted cinema enjoyment at appropriately marked screenings. This is possible by newly installed audio description and subtitling systems.
Children and young people can also become active themselves in workshops and projects within the supporting programme of the SCHLINGEL. For professionals, lectures and informative discussion rounds at the "SCHLINGEL Industry Forum" provide best networking opportunities. At the same time, filmmakers can exchange information on current trends and tendencies.
Until the grand opening, however, the SCHLINGEL team is on the road all over the world to discover the best new films and bring them to Chemnitz. Furthermore SCHLINGEL would like to popularise German productions for young people abroad. The continuous work in this field pays off in SCHLINGEL presentations in China, Israel, Japan, Canada, Russia and Uzbekistan, for example.
