Therefore the festival is considered as Germany’s largest platform for this genre.
The protagonists take the audience on trips to foreign countries to talk about their live circumstances and cultures. As all films are shown in their native language, it seems that the interest in other cultures and foreign languages aroused almost additionally. A live translation, which take place in the cinema hall, also contributs to the special atmosphere of the festival. Film teams present their films and tell lots of background information as well as exciting anecdotes of the film world. At the end of the festival professional and children’s juries select the best productions out of the six competitions.
Different workshops offer the opportunity for children and young people to become active themselves and to practice their skills in film reception, analysis or production. Professionals discuss current trends after various interesting presentations and panels. Another aim of the festival is to reach editors, distributors and cinema operators to promote and support the films after the festival. Furthermore SCHLINGEL would like to popularise German productions abroad. This continuous work pays off in SCHLINGEL presentations in Canada, China, Israel, Japan, Russia or Uzbekistan.
