The 22nd SCHLINGEL showed brand new films in Chemnitz / GermanyAt the end of September the international children and youth film scene as well as thousands of cineasts from the region met in Chemnitz again at the 22nd edition of the International Film Festival SCHLINGEL that took place at the CineStar in the Galerie Roter Turm. As usual, the programme was very extensive – more than 150 recent productions from around the world were waiting to be discovered and marvelled. Therefore the festival is considered as Germany’s largest platform for this genre.
The protagonists took the audience on trips to foreign countries to talk about their live circumstances and cultures. As all films were shown in their native language, it seemed that the interest in other cultures and foreign languages aroused almost additionally. A live translation, which took place in the cinema hall, also contributed to the special atmosphere of the festival. Film teams presented their films and told lots of background information as well as exciting anecdotes of the film world. At the end of the festival professional, children’s and youth juries selected the best productions out of the six competitions.
Different workshops offered the opportunity for children and young people to become active themselves and to practice their skills in film reception, analysis or production. Professionals discussed current trends after various interesting presentations and panels. Another aim of the festival was to reach editors, distributors and cinema operators to promote and support the films after the festival. Furthermore SCHLINGEL would like to popularise German productions abroad. This continuous work pays off in SCHLINGEL presentations in Canada, China, Israel, Japan, Russia or Uzbekistan.
