New York & Montreal

Before our festival director, Michael Harbauer, travelled to the FIFEM in Montreal, he first visited the New York International Children’s Film Festival. At both festivals he searched the programmes for new international productions to be invited and shown at the 20th edition of SCHLINGEL in October.

Tashkent & Samarkand

At the end of April Michael Harbauer travelled to Tashkent and Samarkand in Uzbekistan for one week to attend the “Shom Bola” Festival for the second time after 2014. He presented a total of 14 German children and youth productions,  among them classics like “The Flying Classroom“ or “Hands Off Mississippi“ as well as new films such as “Pinocchio“ and “The Pasta Detectives“. Michael Harbauer was accompanied by German director Frederik Steiner who presented his movie “Zurich“.

Zlín

At the beginning of June, a delegation of SCHLINGEL including festival assistant Marion Schöffler and festival director Michael Harbauer visited the Zlin International Film Festival for Children and Youth, which in its 55th edition put a special focus on films from Germany. Furthermore, the festival teams from Zlin, Poznan (“Ale Kino!”) and Chemnitz presented their joint short film project “Neighbourhood” for the first time.

Krakow

Also in June, festival director Michael Harbauer and project manager Gritt Langer went to Poland to attend the International Film Festival for Children and Youth KINOLUB in Krakow. Together with the German filmmakers they presented five recent productions as part of a German focus.

Tel Aviv

Within the framework of the celebrations of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel by Goethe Institut Israel, SCHLINGEL entered into collaboration with Tel Aviv International Children’s Film Festival to organize a “Focus Germany” section for the 11th edition of the Israeli festival. In July festival director Michael Harbauer, project manager Gritt Langer and a group of German filmmakers went to Israel to present four of the latest German productions. Furthermore a two day workshop brought together Israeli filmmakers and their German colleagues to discuss current children’s film projects.  Scriptwriter Katharina Reschke, who moderated the event, described the exchange as “extremely inspiring and fruitful”.

Tainan

At the beginning of August festival assistant Marion Schöffler attended the “Eureka! Tainan International Children’s Film festival” in Taiwan. Together with colleagues from France, India, Spain and South Korea she was a member of the International Jury which awarded the prize for the best film.

Tokyo

After his first visit in 2014 festival director Michael Harbauer travelled to Japan again in August to join this year’s International Jury at KINEKO International Children’s Film Festival in Tokyo.

Berlin

At the end of September SCHLINGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audience and the Representation of the Free State of Saxony in Berlin invited politicians and key players of the German film and TV industry to enjoy an exclusive preview of the upcoming 20th festival edition. Further to the actual festival programme with new projects and collaborations, trailers of the films in the competition were presented. During a reception guests had the opportunity to meet and enter into exchange with the festival team, filmmakers and partners of SCHLINGEL.

Films + Talks in Romania, Russia and Poland

During the last month festival director Michael Harbauer travelled to Romania, Russia and Poland. In Bucharest he decided on the winner film as member of the jury at the children and youth film festival KINOdiseea. Afterwards he attended at the festival Cinemobil in Nizhny Novgorod, where he showed five German productions, all of them had a Russian voice over. His next stop was the international film market in Moscow, there he had the chance to talk to Russian cinema operators.
